Sherri Thompson

It is a sad time in the world of MMA and at Toe2Toe Fitness.   The loss of Sherri Thompson has rocked many peoples lives because Sherri has impacted many people's lives!  Sherri was found dead in her apartment on Tuesday morning.  She died from a cardiac disarythmia.  It is believed that she died quickly.

Sherri has been a vital part of the Georgia fighting community for over 10 years. She has worked at just about every gym in the Atlanta area, helping to groom numerous fighters (male and female) into what they are today. Whether cornering a fighter, working behind the scenes, or just hanging out in the crowd, you always saw Sherri at all the local fights. It’s not going to seem the same without her there.

Even more than what she did for the fighting community, she impacted people’s lives through her love of life! “Embrace your crazy” was her motto, and that she did! She just had a special way of making everyone feel good, even when she was “torturing” students in her kickboxing classes. I don’t know how many other women could get away with calling so many men (pro fighters included) “Princess” or “Sparkle Nuts” or "Twinkle Toes".

We will miss her spunky-ness at Toe2Toe Fitness and have been blessed by having her as our Cardio kickboxing instructor and our Striking coach for the last few months.  Let's all celebrate her life and EMBRACE YOUR CRAZY!!

Make sure you visit her Facebook page and let her family know what an impact Sherri has had on your life!!

Got Milk??

There has been lots of interesting information coming out recently about milk being a good post workout drink.  Yes the white stuff that comes from cows!!  Apparently it really does do a body good!!

A review published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition late last year found that drinking milk after exercise has positive effects on recovery, muscle building and hydration.

But there is more!!  Seems milk (or dairy) can help with weight loss!!  Studies at the University of TN showed that women that were put on a diet of 500 less calories a day than they were used to did in fact lose weight (Duh?).  But the group of women that were on the same diet but dairy was added…their fat loss was doubled!!  Thanks to Eat This Not That for this tidbit of information!!

Here are some articles to read about these topics, check 'em out:

We are not nutritional gurus, don't claim to be.  We just want to give you some information that you may not know about.  So go check out these articles and use your best judgement on how it will (or will not) be added to your fitness plan.

What an awesome year!

First, we hope that you had a wonderful holiday season!  We welcome 2011 and look forward to all the progress that it brings!!
It has been an awesome year...Toe2Toe Fitness Hiram has evolved into an awesome gym since our opening December 26, 2009!   A huge congratulations to all the members that accomplished so much during this year with us… weight loss, toning up your body, belt promotions, tournament wins, MMA fight wins and so much more!
Many of you are aware of the changes at the Villa Rica location.  We are so happy for Lance and Alisha and their new adventure with Body Plex.  We wish them well.
What does this mean for Toe2Toe Fitness Hiram?   We will continue to strengthen our Toe2Toe family and offer our members a great place to train and exercise!  We will continue to offer our members the consistency of good quality trainers and a fun, yet intense, training program.
We want to do what we have been doing over our first year!  Why change what is working so well for so many?
One needed improvement is our switch to a blog.  We will be using this blog as our website.  We weighed our options and feel a blog is much better for us than a website.  Websites can get stagnant and boring.  This blog will allow us to consistently update you on upcoming news, allow our trainers to give training advice, and so much more.

Happy 2011 and we look forward to seeing you at Toe2Toe Fitness!
